Ну хотя бы "was being"
Оно бы отлично легло по смыслу, но мне не удаётся "–d" на конце услышать.
Но может так глотает.
Зато со следующей строчкой "оглядываюсь назад, а сзади лишь моя тень..." фраза "что за мной следят" вписалась бы в разы лучше, чем весь этот предлагаемый набор звуков: "for low", "far low" и прочее.
Наверное, этот случай, когда на клетке со львом написано "Осёл". В смысле, не верь глазам своим. Followed так followed.

А хотя вслушалась специально с желанием услышать "–d". Да, через две секунды после слова, похожего на "follow" есть что-то, что при желании можно истолковать как "–d". При большом желании
